Basic working principle

Telecom batteries store electrical energy inside the battery through chemical reactions and release the energy when needed. Different types of batteries use different chemical compositions and reaction principles, but the basic process is roughly the same:

 

Charging process:

 

Electric energy input: Electrical energy from the main power source or generator is input into the battery through a rectifier or charger.

 

Chemical reaction: Electrical energy causes a reversible chemical reaction inside the battery, converting electrical energy into chemical energy stored in the battery.

 

Electrolyte and electrode reactions: In lead-acid batteries, hydrogen ions and sulfate ions in the sulfuric acid electrolyte react with the lead electrode to form lead sulfate and water. In lithium-ion batteries, lithium ions move between the positive and negative electrodes and are embedded in the lattice of the electrode material.

 

Discharge process:

 

Electric energy output: When telecom equipment needs backup power, the battery begins to discharge and release the stored electrical energy.

 

Chemical reaction reversal: The chemical reaction inside the battery is reversed, and chemical energy is converted into electrical energy output.

Current supply: The battery supplies DC current through an inverter or directly to support the normal operation of telecommunication equipment.

Battery Management System (BMS)

The battery management system (BMS) plays a vital role in telecommunication battery technology. The main functions of BMS include:

 

Monitoring battery status: Real-time monitoring of battery parameters such as voltage, current, temperature and charge status.

Balancing battery cells: Ensure the voltage and charge status between multiple battery cells are balanced to extend battery life.

Protect battery safety: Prevent overcharging, over-discharging, overheating and short circuit to ensure battery safety and stability.

Optimize the charging and discharging process: Optimize the charging and discharging process through intelligent algorithms to improve battery efficiency and life.
