(1) Initial charge

 

At this stage, the initial charge of VRLA has the following methods:

 

①Series charging: use high-voltage, low-current chargers, generally speaking, the output voltage of the charger is 300-450V, the current output is 5-30A, the current can be controlled, the power of each battery can be controlled, and the battery can be discharged and detected Capacity, eliminating faulty batteries, this method is generally adopted by manufacturers.

 

②Parallel charging: The charger is low voltage and high current, and the current of each battery is related to the charging state and internal resistance of the battery. It is not possible to calculate the charge capacity of each battery. Parallel charging control voltage is hardly used by manufacturers.

 

③Series parallel hybrid charging: Generally, it is carried out in series first and then in parallel. The charger usually has a voltage output of 150V and a current of 30-100A. A single battery has no voltage and current control, and can be grouped for discharge inspection. It is currently used by many manufacturers. this way.

 

④Single battery charging: It can be charged and discharged accurately, can control current and voltage, can classify and select each battery, and is generally used in testing.

 

⑤Module control of single battery charging: each module can charge 64 batteries, and each charger can charge more than 700 batteries. If one or more failures in one module do not affect the charging of other batteries, constant voltage and constant current can be performed. Control, to ensure that the battery will not be overcharged, but also to check the capacity and carry out battery classification, this will be the future development direction.

 

(2) Float charge

 

When the VBLA battery is float-charged, the voltage and current are set to be low, so gassing and plate corrosion are not serious. Most float-charging uses constant-voltage float-charging, and the setting for each cell is generally about 2.20-2.27V. For the battery pack, the voltage of each single battery is different during floating charging. The battery with high saturation is at a higher voltage and produces gas, and the battery with low saturation is at a lower voltage due to the deoxidation of oxygenation. , the negative terminal of these batteries is in danger of not being fully charged. After floating charge for a period of time. The voltages of the individual cells will gradually equalize, but the battery discharge results may not be satisfactory.

 

If the setting value of the floating charge voltage is increased, the battery life will be shortened, and if the battery is in a high temperature environment, there may be a risk of thermal runaway.

 

The best way is to:

 

①Charge away from the device. If there are two sets of batteries, charge the battery sets alternately. For a group of batteries, for short-term charging, generally use 2.6V/cell to ensure that the cells of the battery pack are charged evenly, and then float charge after a period of rest.

 

②Using balanced charging, discharge the battery pack, use 2.35V/cell to carry out balanced charging for a period of time, and then switch to floating charging.

 

(3) Cycle charging

 

In the field of cycle applications, VRLA batteries are designed with thin plates to improve specific energy and high current performance. The best charging methods for VLRA batteries with thin plates are pulse and current decrement charging. The pulse method can be quickly filled with high input current in a short period of time, with little overcharge; the current decrement method has the same advantages, but the method is completely different. The key to high-current fast charging is the recombination process, providing sufficient current and overwhelming this process. As the battery ages, the recombination efficiency becomes more and more intense, but the plates are thin, the surface area is large, the distance between the plates is small, and the charging efficiency is high.
