High-power lead-acid batteries are maintenance-free batteries, and there is no need to add electrolyte for later maintenance of the batteries. In the production process, the poor liquid technology is generally used. The O2 produced by the positive electrode reaches the negative electrode through the channel of the ultra-fine glass fiber separator for composite absorption. The gas pressure causes the battery to leak in places where the seal is not good.

One is that too much acid is added to the battery, and the battery is in a liquid-rich state, which blocks the gas channel for O2 regenerating, and the gas generated by the battery cannot be recombined. After the internal pressure increases, the safety valve is frequently opened, and the gas overflows the safety valve and is released outside the battery. When it is cold, it condenses into acid around the safety valve;

 

The second is that the rubber pad around the safety valve is aging, and the sealing performance of the battery changes, causing the valve opening pressure to drop, the safety valve is opened for a long time, and the acid mist condenses into liquid, causing liquid leakage.

The phenomenon of pole leakage is quite common in data centers. After one year of battery operation, some pole terminals will leak. Often after five years of operation, the problem of pole terminal leakage is very serious. The key reason for the battery leakage is that the pole metal and the battery cover sealant do not cooperate well. The pole terminals are corroded by oxygen in the acidic environment. This is commonly known as the acid climbing phenomenon.

At present, there are two ways of sealing the battery tank cover: epoxy resin sealing and heat sealing.

Epoxy resin glue seal leakage, mainly because the glue seal control conditions are relatively strict, and the epoxy glue formula and curing conditions are required to be well controlled, otherwise it will cause poor bonding between the sealant and the shell, forming a leakage channel, and causing battery damage. To solve the problem of battery leakage, the most important thing is to ensure the quality of the lead-acid battery, such as ensuring that the amount of electrolyte in the battery is within a reasonable range, ensuring the tightness of the battery case, and ensuring the effectiveness of the battery cover seal.

 

01 Insulation mat ✦

Installing insulating mats in the data center is the simplest and most effective way to prevent high-power lead-acid batteries from short-circuiting, and to prevent electrical short-circuits caused by conduction between the corrosive liquid flowing out of the battery leakage and the metal frame at the bottom of the battery. The installation diagram is shown in Figure 1. Show. This measure is easy to implement and has a certain effect on vertically installed batteries. The insulating pad currently has two materials: flame-retardant rubber pad and epoxy resin board.

 

The flame retardant rubber pad is made of rubber, and a flame retardant is added to the material to achieve the flame retardant effect. Because of the high elasticity of the rubber pad, its shock resistance is particularly good; the surface resistance of the rubber insulating pad is large, difficult to install, and poor in heat dissipation, but The price is relatively cheap.

 

The epoxy resin mat is made of epoxy board, also known as glass fiber cloth, which is bonded with epoxy resin and made by heating and high pressure. It has high mechanical properties at medium temperature and stable electrical performance under high humidity. It is used to prevent Electrical short circuit caused by battery leakage, the effect is very significant. Relatively speaking, the surface of the epoxy insulation board is smooth and easy to install, but the price is more expensive than the rubber pad.

 

02 Insulation sheath ✦

Fully wrap the metal load-bearing beam, as shown in Figure 2, to prevent the leaked corrosive liquid from conducting between the battery and the frame and causing an electrical short circuit. The insulating sheath can also be called a U-shaped card groove or a load-bearing beam sheath. The material is flame-retardant PVC, ABS or PP and other plastic materials, smooth, wear-resistant, good pressure resistance, and easy to install. And it does not affect the ventilation and heat dissipation of the upper and lower layers of the battery. The disadvantage is that it cannot accept liquid, and a large amount of liquid will flow to the lower battery to cause corrosion. The insulating sheath needs to be specially customized according to the shape of the load-bearing beam to open a plastic mold.

 

03 Leak-proof tray 

The thickness of the tray should be designed to have a certain strength to bear the weight of the battery; the inner bottom of the tray is designed with diversion ribs to spread the electrolyte to the tray to avoid excessive deposition of electrolyte in one place, so that the battery can be soaked in the electrolyte for a long time; tray material Use flame retardant ABS or other flame retardant plastic materials to ensure the flame retardant performance of the tray, which can prevent the battery from burning due to electrical short circuit to a certain extent. The disadvantage is that the plastic mold needs to be specially customized for each type of battery. The schematic diagram of the installation of the anti-leakage tray is shown in Figure 3.
