4. Battery Management System (BMS)

4.1 The overall structure of the BMS system This BMS system is a battery management system designed according to the characteristics of large-scale energy storage battery arrays. This system uses lead-acid batteries as energy storage battery arrays for monitoring, evaluating and protecting battery operation. A collection of state-of-the-art electronic equipment, including: monitoring and transmitting information on the operating status of lead-acid batteries, battery packs, and battery system units, such as battery voltage, current, temperature, internal resistance, and protection; evaluating and calculating the batterys state of charge SOC, Lifespan health status SOH and battery cumulative processing energy, etc.; protect battery safety, etc.

4.2 System overall structure diagram

The BMS system consists of ESMU, ESGU and BMM: ESMU (Energy Storage System Management Unit) energy storage system management unit, which performs numerical calculation, performance analysis, alarm processing and record storage for the real-time battery data uploaded by BMM; ESMU manages two ESGU modules. ESGU (Energy Storage Battery Group Control Unit) battery pack control unit, ESGU mainly collects the operation information of the whole pack of batteries, collects the total voltage and current of the whole pack of batteries, and alarms and protects the abnormality of the battery pack; each ESGU Manage 14 clusters of batteries. BMM (Battery Monitoring Module) battery pack monitoring module, this unit integrates the functions of battery operation information monitoring and collection, automatic charging, discharge equalization management, online internal resistance test, fault diagnosis, etc. Each module can manage a cluster (24) of battery cells. Each group of battery units corresponds to 14 clusters of batteries and 14 BMMs. The BMS system has the following features: comprehensive battery information management, online SOC diagnosis, non-destructive active equalization charging management, system protection function, thermal management function, self-fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant technology, professional load linkage control and optimization, flexible modular design . 4.2 BMS system main equipment introduction battery monitoring module This unit integrates the functions of battery operation information monitoring and collection, charging equalization management, fault diagnosis and so on. The design is compact and reasonable, highly integrated, and isolation technology is used between each unit, which has good insulation performance, high reliability and safety. Each module can monitor and maintain 24 strings of batteries, and can be connected to multiple temperature sensors. The energy storage battery management modules and the energy storage system management unit are connected by RS485 or CAN. On-line automatic detection of each battery voltage, battery pack terminal voltage, charge and discharge current and temperature, etc.; real-time alarm function to realize over-limit alarms for voltage, temperature, and current; on-site alarm, dry node output closed, and remote computer alarms can be realized And display the alarm content; online automatic periodic (period can be set) test battery internal resistance; with RS485 / or CAN communication interface, can be connected to the monitoring system or on-site acquisition unit, to realize the transmission of data and alarm information, to achieve remote monitoring of the battery pack Purpose: Modular design is adopted, which is convenient for installation, use and maintenance, and the modules are isolated from each other and has high reliability; the product has the function of online balance maintenance of battery packs, which can improve the voltage consistency of battery packs by charging single batteries online with low current , to achieve the purpose of delaying battery failure.

The battery pack control module ESGUESGU mainly collects the operation information of the whole pack of batteries, collects the total voltage and current of the whole pack of batteries, and alarms and protects the abnormality of the battery pack; it can protect the battery pack according to the requirements of safe handling rules, To ensure the safe and stable operation of the battery system, when abnormal faults such as severe overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent (short circuit), leakage (insulation) and other abnormal faults occur, the energy storage system management unit sends commands to the unit to control the entire battery pack To prevent the battery from being overcharged, overdischarged and overcurrented.
